Chinese herbal medicine is a wondrous art whose historical antecedents are 3000 years old. Whereas perhaps 300 herbs have been observed having medicinal effects in the European tradition (with 50 or 60 in common use), in China over 5000 substances have been observed. With its long clinical history, 400 herbs have emerged as the most potent.

Unique to Chinese medicine is the synergistic effects of combining three to 15 herbs together, as well as their application into a sophisticated and coherent, medical system that evaluates the health and balance or the internal organs and qi, blood and fluid. Chinese herbal medicine is completely institutionalized in modern China, offering services to hundreds of millions of outpatients and hospitalized patients for all health problems.

Although herbal medicines are given as tang (soup decoction) in China, we use herbal pills and powders, or customized alcohol-extracted tinctures.
